What is Trusting Touch?

Trusting Touch is the TheFanlistings.org approved fanlisting for the relationship between Gambit (aka Remy LeBeau) and Rogue from X-Men.

Who are Gambit and Rogue?

Gambit (Remy LeBeau) and Rogue are characters originally from the X-Men comics, later appearing in X-Men: the Animated Series and X-Men Evolution (another animated series). Rogue has also been in the two live action X-Men films (X-Men and X2: X-Men United) played by Anna Paquin and given the name Marie D'Ancanto.

Gambit was born and raised in New Orleans where he learned to become an expert thief. He was adopted by Jean-Luc LeBeau, the patriarch of the Thieves Guild, at the age of ten and soon after a marriage was arranged between he and Bella Donna Bodreaux, the granddaughter of the head of the Assassins Guild. Unfortunately, Bella Donna's brother Julien objected to the marriage and challenged Remy to a duel. When Remy won the duel, killing Julien in self-defense, he was banished from New Orleans in an attempt to keep hold of the uneasy truce between the two Guilds. Remy has the ability to produce a kinetic charge and channel that energy, as well as a hypnotic charm, which both aided him in his line of work and later came in handy when he joined the X-Men team through Storm. Gambit is a bit of a charming playboy, with a complicated and somewhat dark past, but when it really comes down to it he has a good heart.

Rogue was born in Caldecott County, Mississippi and raised there by her father after her mother died when she was still a young child. In the comics her real name has never been revealed and she had gone by Rogue for most of her life, though in the films she was named Marie D'Ancanto. She and her father weren't getting along, so she ran away to live in the swamps, where she was found by a woman named Raven Darkholme (Mystique). Mystique and her friend Destiny (Irene) offered Rogue a place to stay and soon after adopted her. When she got older Rogue became very popular with the boys, and it was while dating a boy named Cody Robbins that her powers manifested. When Cody and Rogue shared their first kiss, Rogue found herself filled with Cody's memories, and Cody fell into a coma. Over the next few years Mystique and Destiny tried to teach Rogue to control her powers, while they worked on forming the Brotherhood of Mutants, of which Rogue was a member. Rogue finally fled to the X-Men for help when her powers, and the memories she'd earlier absorbed from Ms. Marvel, began to overpower her mind. Due to her past, Rogue doesn't trust easily and seldom lets anyone get close -- emotionally or physically. Despite being raised by Mystique and being part of the Brotherhood, Rogue has shown she is a good person and has become a leader among the X-Men.

The History of Gambit and Rogue's Relationship

What is a fanlisting?

The fanlisting concept was thought of by Janine, of seraphic-devil.org. There are hundreds of different fanlistings for people, places, things, concepts, tv shows, movies, and couples. They're individual lists of fans who like that certain subject. If you want to know more, check out the official fanlistings site.

What about the layout?

The site is skinned, so there are five different layout choices at present:

v.1 blue jeans, which features an image of Gambit dipping Rogue into a kiss, both of them wearing worn blue jeans, from X-Men Annual 1997

v.2 passionate, which features an image of Gambit and Rogue in a rather passionate embrace from X-Men Annual 1997

v.3 developing, which features images of Gambit and Rogue as their relationship develops through the animated series X-Men Evolution

v.4 incarnations, which features images of Gambit and Rogue getting closer in some of their various incarnations (four from different time periods of the comics, one from the original animated series and one from X-Men Evolution)

v.5 two words, which features panels of Gambit and Rogue (edited and relit) from Uncanny X-Men #385

What about the site?

The site name is modified from the one given by the original owner. Jo had named the fanlisting Touch, which I liked a lot, but I wanted to add a little something more and Trusting Touch just came to me. The two things that Gambit and Rogue's relationship revolves around most are trust and touch, so it seemed to be a perfect fit.

The graphics were all done by Selene la Luna (unless otherwise noted). The original images used are from Beyond Evolution, The Love Machine and my personal files. The PHPFanbase 2.1 script used on this site is Copyright 2003 Sasha, nothing-less.net. All rights reserved. I originally used Sasha's NL-Convert to PHP to convert the site to PHP. The skinning of the site was made possible with Angela's wonderful script phpSiteSkin.

I adopted this fanlisting from Jo of tempestuous.org on September 16, 2004.
